The Deal with Rock Creek
I just got off the phone with the Georgetown Ranger Station.
According to the gentleman at the station. The trails are closed currentnly due to snow and rain. But the trails through Rock Creek are open to ATVs and have always been as previously designated. The only problem areas are "user created" roads that are not maintained by the USFS.
I will be picking up a map on the way home tonight. Making a PDF and posting it if anyone wants a copy.

What's the difference between the map they're giving you, and the ones posted online?

Re: The Deal with Rock Creek
Doesn't look like anything, both are Black and White. The paper copy is pretty large, not a real user friendly map. One of the guys I was riding with grew up in Pollock and he was having trouble finding things on the map. If they decide to update it would be nice to go with some color to help find the landmarks. I'm going try and download and save into my Palm, it would actually be a handy thing to have along until I can get some of the routes into the GPS.Ken wrote:What's the difference between the map they're giving you, and the ones posted online?

Region 5 Forest Visitor Maps - in PDF
The FS Region 5 web site has downloadable Visitor Maps (the big unmanageable inaccurate ones:-) available. Strangely, neither the Tahoe or the Eldorado include this feature on their pages!
http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/forestvisitormaps/
Once you've selected a forest, look at the upper right corner for "Printable Version" which is really the downloadable PDF file. You can click on their picture and look at specific sections online as well.
Beats paying $10 each!
