A weekend in Little Sahara (Utah)
More can be found on my Blog Site.
---
Although we told our good friend Steve that we did not like Sand Dunes and are fans of standard desert/mountain trails, we somehow managed to end up in White Sands campground smack in the middle of Little Sahara.
We decided to adventure North/East (out of the dunes) and ran into what appears to have been a hastily abandoned polygamist camp.
It would be interesting to get the full, true backstory on why all these personal belongings (including two pickup trucks) were just abandoned out here:
A few photos:
The location had 3x Trailer homes (those full size types), one smaller camping-style trailer and a home-made garage attached to one of the trailer homes. The garage contained a pickup truck, extra tires and misc. parts.
There was also the remnants of what appeared to be a one room school, with chalk-boards, science books, etc.
We also found some very deep holes, but they were covered with aluminum sheets and we couldn't discern what was below.
All-in-all, quite odd considering clothes, bills, books, dishes, TV, dishwasher, toys, bikes, 2 x trucks all probably now sitting there for around 9 years.
