A small group of us decided to brave the temperatures in the teens and go for a snow ride.

Only the third trip out on the new quad....need to break it in right. :)

The group shot.

The views did not disappoint

We went up the mountain until the snow just got too deep to continue and headed down. Dave busting trail for a while, the Polaris 850 Snow Machine.

The Can-Am Renegade 800 with the ATR radials performed very well in the snow.

On a short steep hill we did a little tire comparison. Polaris 850 stock tires.

Same rider 850XP with ITP Bajacross tires....big difference.

Usually my ITP MudLites prove very effective in the snow but he was able to run circles around us with those tires. The Mudlites do well but when you loose momentum you dig, the Bajacross kept him moving forward.

It was a great trip, good powder, good friends and great views.

Nice tire comparison. Looks like the stock tires on a Polaris suck as much as the stock tires on a Grizzly. My Bighorns sound like your MudLites: OK in the snow until you go slow, then they decide you are trying to ride to China and just start digging. I guess the Bajacross tread design is better for soft stuff(?).

Nice! Thanks for the excellent photos and tire comparison. How about comparing BigHorns to those Mudlites?

Yeah, those Dunlops were like slicks....

It was quite the difference in snow with the Bighorn 26s vs. the 25s. I took the Grizz 700 up on FR-19 a year ago November and trying to climb a hill just made them dig in - the 25s. With the 26s on the Grizz 660, it was totally different - gas on and they just start shooting snow and start climbing. I was impressed.

also theres a HUGE diff in the foot print as well, 25/10 for the 25''s vs 26/12 for the backs and 25/8 vs 26/9 for the front. Thats 6 inches more in width for flowtation = 16-17% more foot print to spread the weight.

I agree - I think it was the better floating that worked for me. The height would definitely help in a deeper base though.
