Went riding Laporte/Howland Flat
A couple of friends and I went riding yesterday and today up in the Laporte area around the old mining towns of Poker Flat and Howland Flat. Beautiful place to ride.

Nice! That's a fun area to ride around in. That ole steam shovel looks familiar:
The last time I was out that way, RedGrizz thought the engine looked salvageable and if he had a battery, fuel and oil he thought he might be able to get it running!:

You are right. I saw an oil filter hanging out the back that didn't look that old. Really great place to ride. One of my favorite. I almost never see anyone else riding up there except for the jeepers.

That would be funny if it started.

Cool stuff - another area that definitely looks fun to ride in. Few people = fun! Thanks for the pix!

Re: Went riding Laporte/Howland Flat
Hello, I know the owners of the old dragline. It's not a steam shovel. Knew the previous owner as well. It runs, have seen it work. I own the mine next to theirs. There is an old power shovel, a cable bucket Osgood, on the pit floor. It runs on gas. We plan to restore it, use it then or give it to a museum. You're welcome to look around but please leave the equipment alone. Thanks. P.S. The local rattlers like to hide under the heavy equipment. There is also a 500+ lb, black bear who lives in the neighborhood. He is fearless, will come right up to you. Watch your "six."
