Need help with an Explorist and Mapsend software.

Postby ACLakey » Thu Feb 08, 2007 8:32 am

Here is my delema. I have an Explorist 500Le hand held, the MapSend Direct Route software and the MapSend Topo software. I can not get any of the maps from either software to load onto the unit.

In the Topo software I select a region and select the Explorist in the options. When I attempt to load the reigon onto the unit it states the unit is not registered. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

The Direct route software I can load information, but it gives me an error that the files are not compatble and there is no Explorist device to select under options. Any body have any thoughts? I am completely at a loss and their customer service is worthless. Please help.

Maybe try and re-register your gps unit.

Tried that, but it doesn't change. I did find a file converter that changes the file format to one the Explorist units can use. It seems they are differnt than all other Magellan handhelds. Still can't get the software to work. Says right on the box compatiable with all MAgellan hand held units, but so far it is not.

Andrew I don't know about the 500 but the XL won't run the older software. What if any software came with the unit? You may have already done all this but, you need to create the regions and save them before you can upload them. If you did that and it won't load you need to convert to the Explorist format. Did you already find their conversion software?

I found their conversion software but am comfused on how to use it.

I figured the Topo software problem out. The serial number was not correctly entered into the computer so it was not recognizing the handheld. Still have not figured the Direct Route software issue. I can't find the Explorist in the options. How do I go about downloading the info and converting it to the Explorist format. Then what folder do I put it in in the handheld? Thanks.

Do you have MapSend manager? If so open that, when it opens there should be a series of options on the left side of that window, choose "Manage GPS Files", that opens another window, 3rd one down should say "convert data to explorist format". Just below that there is another box that reads "manage files". I created a desktop shortcut and file for the GPS stuff, and keep it all there.

Thanks, I will do that. Now that I have converted the files, where do I save them on the handheld? What folders do I place the information in?

The Garmin unit and software was MUCH easier to use!

The XL has an SD card so I keep my routes, regions, and base maps there, then access them through the GPS' menu when I want them. You should have directories in the GPS you can store them.

Junfan, did you ever get your working. . . I was reading through this thread and there is one more thing that you need to do for the XL with the older topo map series. You need to install a map converter. This is actually different then the one larry Had Mentioned above. I can walk you through this if you want as I spent a good few hours with tech support trying to figure out what was going wrong on mine originally.

Thanks, but the guy I was helping out decided to return the unit. He was on the phone literaly for three days here at work trying to get this resolved. They were less than helpful.
