$50 Water Filters used now by Missionaries
These filters can clean really really good and are dirt cheap at $50.
This filter can filter over 1,000,000 gallons. - One filter!
Check it out for yourself.
It would be good for your own home preparedness and out in the boonies.
Their catch phrase "If you can clean blood you can clean water"
I think I am going to buy two of these.
There are two different filters available.
( I am not connected in anyway with this company I just heard the about on the local Christian radio station who working with organizations to donate them around the world )

Yeah...that's pretty neat. I have a pump for quadding...but at home....that would work.

What a great find! I keep a certain amount of bottled water around for contingencies and wondered what I could do if our well went out. So I thought of keeping a couple of 20 gallon containers and rotate water through them. Then a better idea occurred to me - we live near a canal! If there were a water emergency of some kind, I could just take empty buckets down there and bring them back up and run them through a filter like this. Doh! How easy!
Seems like a great camping thing - scoop up a bucketful of Meadow Lake and viola!

That's pretty slick. I have a Katadyn Gravidyn for emergency home use but it costs about 3x as much and the filters have to be replaced after 6 months. If this bucket filter really works as well as they say, it would be the best solution I've seen for emergency home filtering.

I'm wondering if yours might have the edge on taste - it seems to have some additional features for that. I think the Point One filters might be designed for an inexpensive solution for potable water, though maybe not the best tasting thing in the world.

Re: $50 Water Filters used now by Missionaries
Yes Dave, that might be the case. To get good tasting water you need carbon filter elements in addition to the filter-out-the-bugs small aperture filters. Since they say their filter can be backwashed and never really expires, my guess is that it doesn't have the carbon elements that would make the water taste good.
I can take one of my portable Katadyn Hikers, toss the end into a stagnant/polluted pool that would taste like crap, and the water tastes as good as any when it comes out the other end. It might still taste brackish (but otherwise be just as safe) after going through the bucket filter.
