Its actually not too bad. I just came back from a camping trip we do each spring. We rode 100 miles at a place called East Fort Rock, which has 318 miles of designated trails:

If you like riding the dunes, we have two options there.
1. Head about 45 mins east to Pacific coast, and there are dune/beach riding.

2. Head about 3 hours east, and there miles and miles of desert dunes.

and anywhere inbetween there are several places to camp/ride in the mud/etc. All in all a lot of fun really.
