Polaris Clutch Upgrades
Chadd seems to be the clutch expert.....but anyone can chime in.
What's your opinion on each of these options.... advantages/disadvantages. Most of my riding is slow....low gear....I definitely don't want jerk engagements....but firm, due to many uphill or climbing situations.
Upgrading to 800 clutch kit. Not sure what parts get switched out.
Team Performance Big Tire clutches.

Heelclicker all the way...You can do your own tuning or I can help with it.
Other kits only work a set elavations so when you go way up high you will have trouble.
The heelclicker you can just change a $20.00 spring and you are good to go.

I was concerned about the aftermarket clutches being jerky and coming in real hard, but my friend assured me that his still retains low speed ride quality, but when he hammers the throttle it jumps. What got you thinking about a clutch?

I'm bouncing between the Radial and Bias Ply Big Horn treads. I probably won't be doing it until after this summer...I'm going to be watching Larry's Bighorns carefully.BradM wrote:No kidding. Whatcha going to get?Ken wrote:

This would be the only reason I'd ever consider tampering with the clutch, btw.

To be honest with you I don't think I could own an auto without putting a clutch kit in it, period. The give you an amazing amount of control on when the clutch engages, the shift out rpm, they improve belt grip and on some models seriously improve engine breaking. If you want it to engage at a low rpm, grip the belt tighter than stock and hold it in low range longer before shift out it is as simple as changing out your springs. The Healclicker as mentioned above gives you great versatility on the Polaris quads. If you are not happy or just want to experiment you can pick up a different spring for cheap.
The stock clutch engagement is ok for a wide range of riding applications. With a kit you can customize the tranny for YOUR style of ridding, after market mods (bigger tires), altitude, you name it . Worth every cent.

Does putting in a new clutch give you a lower end for towing as well? I use my quad to back the boat into the garage. would it be adventagious to get a different clutch system that will help here as well as when riding on the trails and rocks?

I would leave you 800 clutch the way it is. The Team clutch that you have now is a good set-up.MrPolaris wrote:Does putting in a new clutch give you a lower end for towing as well?
