Bighorns or Dirt Tamers
Again I know. the new guy here.......
I just bought a 06 Sportsman 500 and it came with mud lites 26X10X12s & 26X12X12s and 1.5" spacers. ITS WIDE!!! I do mostly trail riding and like to climb things too(nothing like the rock crawling on here) and a bit of mud here and there. Not mud boggin where you need a snorkel but you get it.
I like the bighorns but then found the Dirt Tamers which would save me $100 on a set of 4.
so from those who know what would be the ones to go with? jsut spend the extra cash and get the bighorns or is there really any diff and i could save some $$$ for other stuff.
im looking at the 26X9X12 & 26X12X12 any probs with these on my atv without the spacers? or should i just get the 25's and save $40?
thanks again

The biggest difference between the two tires....is Bighorns are radial and Dirt Tamers are Bias ply.
If you read the other threads in this section....you'll see I am, was a huge Bias Ply, rock tire guy. Having used the Bighorns now...I really love the radials now. They really soak up the bumps/small rocks.

Sizing....
If you're using stock rims....you'll most likely need spacers with the 26" tires. Reason, they will rub on the tie-rod end. Look at your current setup, and see how far away it is to the inside of your tire....you'll see it's still pretty close with the spacers.
You'll fine with the 25".
If you're using ITP rims....any of the sizes will do. Also note the other posts on Bighorns....they run big. So 25" is closer to 26.
Not sure about the Dirt Tamers.

thanks for all the info/help
im running the stock Polaris rims. i guess they are alloys that come on the LE but not sure, their not the basic steel rims.
also i have the 26X10X12 now and was going to get the 26X9X12 but if the bighorns run big in both height and width then maybe a 10 in ITP=a 9 in Maxxis BH. the spacers make it a PITA on some of the tighter trails.

25's
will the 25" be to small on the width part since you can only get a 25X8X12 & 25X10X12?
seems an 8 on the front and a 10 on the rear is pretty skinny. i know the factory front is an 8 and rear an 11 i think but thats skinny up front.
ohhhh the decisions we have to make. $$$$$ LOL

Dude....You're TEXAS For God's SAKE...
GET THE BIG ONES...26" and ride!
I think you have the Polaris Alloys....you'll know your offset is sucky. The lug nuts aren't that far from the rim edge...the Polaris offset is only like 1.5". Whereas the ITP offset is sunk into the rim...a good 3-3.5".
Face it. You got the spacers. So buy the 26" (8" and 10" would be too small for me), put them on the Poo rims....and see. You'll see right away if it rubs your tie rod end. If it does...slap on your spacers. If those bug you, start saving for some ITP's.
Either way....you'll still be able to ride right away.
