Re: New Toys
well after work today, had a chance to fire them off. The .50 beowulf is one of the funniest guns ive fired in a long time. It blows apart 1 gallon jugs in a very impressive show. Today was also the first day i fired my own ammo (reload's) the first one was a little nerve racking for sure but after that it was all fun.

Re: New Toys
They say its like a 410 as far as kick, i didnt even feel it since i was just so exited to shoot it. I fired of 40 rounds (test rounds for reloads) and i dont have any discoloration on my shoulder nor is it sore, so id say it must be close to a 410 shotgun. I can fire off about 100+ 12 gauge low base shells, with hardly any bruising on my shoulder for a comparison.
I loaded up 200 rounds tonight for the beowulf so ill find out tomorrow how many it takes to get my shoulder sore. I havent fired a 410 for years so cant really say if its close or not, but its diffidently less then a 12 gauge. Seeing half inch holes show up on the targets is a blast though, and its just so fun to shoot you dont really feel it.

Re: New Toys
Wow! A .410 is nothing, I still have the single-shot .410 that my dad trained me to hunt quail with. What's your recipe for the reloads? How heavy is the bullet?

Re: New Toys
didnt make it out today sadly, hopeing to make it out tomorrow morning before work.
Grizz the gun shoots from about 260gn - 600gn bullets, i reload a 334gn bullet (stock target ammo basically for it). I also reload a 350gn they both are heavy hitting. I hear that the best for feel / kick of the gun are the 400-450 range its not snappy but pushes more but that seems like a non- issue to me and they cost significantly more then the others i can order. They call for a powder called lil gun by hodgdon (a 410 shotgun powder actually maybe where the comparison was made?) the 334 bullet takes up to 37.7gn i reloaded at 35.8 first test, new ones i did at 36gn, the 350gn bullet takes 34.6 max (i think) load my first test was 33.6 new ones are at 33.8. Also the powder works well for my .44 mag i was using 240gn bullet with 22.5gn of lil gun. A comparison would be a 9m takes about 4-8gn of powder, a 50bmg takes 230+gn of powder, like most hobbies i pick up im going full bore and picked up the equipment to re-load most my guns .223 / .40 / .357 / .500 / 9m / .44mag/sp.
There's a motto i keep seeing / hearing about reloading it goes like this "Your not going to save any money reloading, your just going to shoot more". Also that ammo should be more accurate then what you can buy. It holds true so far 200 rounds would cost me $260 for the 334 thats $1.30 per shot reloading the exact same round i pay $ .49 and 2+ hours of my time. Also its oddly satisfying to shoot your own loads, and yes they call them loads ... or even working up a load. ill leave you with that as im sure its more enough then you could have wanted to know.

Re: New Toys
after saying all that though i feel i should add, when my bolt failed to lock back on 2 different occasions when my magazine was empty, i flinched when i pulled the trigger. I usually don't do this, so id say there most be some kick... i was sitting at a bench using a bench rest both things ive never done before but those are just excuses id say.

Re: New Toys
Cool! $0.49 vs. $1.30 per round sounds like some nice savings for only 2 hours of fun work. Having more control of the load and being able to tweak it for your particular gun is priceless.
