Satellite Radio

Postby Mr. Miyagi » Thu Jan 05, 2006 11:22 am

Looks like I have satellite radio in my new truck..... Any opinions on whether it's worth the annual cost of $150.?

i have Sirius, with 4 radios on my account, me, my GF and her sister and her other 1/2......I dig it!, lotsa music, no commercials, (unlike free radio which seems to have a 10/1 ratio of commercials vs music) all the NFL games, Stern is goin live on Monday.

a lot of it depends on the music u like too, it so happens a lot of the stuff i listen too doesnt get radio play, and they have channels dedicated to the stuff.
it's all good, fav channel, Raw Dog comedy on 104 :D

Terry it's the best thing going. When I bought my truck it came with a 3 month XM trial, since then I've added 3 additional receivers to my account.

I don't have it....but I often get it in my rental cars....I NEVER listen to the FM radio when I have it (Usually SIRIUS).

023 HAIRNATION baby!

I heard a DJ on FM 98 saying that pay radio is dumb and will never fly.

Newsflash...I'm sure ABC, NBC and CBS executives said the same thing 30 years ago when Cable TV came out...."who would pay, when we broadcast for free."

BTW...SIRIUS had 600,000 subscribers before Howard Stern was announced. Just before Christmas...they hit 3,000,000 subscribers. Howard is on SIRIUS 100 ch.

Is Sirius satellite radio a different beast than XM satellite radio? Are these competing satellite radio stations....

Got it.... Now, I guess I'm new to this satellite stuff. Can I get either XM or Sirius or am I limited by the type of radio that's currently installed in my truck?

Bet I have no choice...... :) XM or nothing..... lol.

You can use either service, but the radio in your truck is set up for XM (I think). They make small receiver kits for both XM and Sirius that you can use in your truck, and the can be used anywhere you want. They make "Boombox" kits that the receivers drop into so you can use the Sat radio in the house, on the porch, or in yor truck. I have one and take it everywhere. Nice to have radio up in the mountains where nothing else comes in. I've gotten to the point where I usually listen to the commercial radio about 10 minutes in the morning for the traffic report, other than that it's all XM

Larry's right. But I think to answer your question...it's XM or nothing...since I don't see Terry Reidowitz buying a Sirius receiver. :)

XM is a little less expensive than Sirius per month. But XM has MLB, Sirius has NFL...XM doesn't have Howard Stern...Sirius Does. The technology is the same...both are fighting over content....which Sirius seems to be winning...XM's only major victory, was getting Baseball. So XM has focused on Cheaper receivers and lower monthly fee.

I prefer Sirius over XM.....but, not enough to buy a Sirius Receiver, if I already had a built in XM radio.

023 is HAIRNATION on Sirius. 041 The Boneyard, is the XM comparable station.

In baseball, what's a "no hitter" over the radio...... Two hours of silence? lol..... That'll sell...... lmao.

I've used both and I like Sirius much better.

u can pretty much get recievers 50 bux or free these days from either or if u cath the right deal.
I got 2 radios with car and home kits for 50 bucks, so i can drag em in if i want to listen while inside the house.

hairnation is a good channel, all 80's rock! :D
Buzzsaw channel 19 more rock plus classics

Hard Attack on 27 is pure metal

stern actually has 2 channels, 100 and 101

sirius also gets all the college football games, hockey and nba.

i think the rates for both are the same right now too...
on XM u can get playboy radio for an extra 2 bux or something...boy, i bet thats exciting, porn radio.

LOL...Playboy radio.

Yeah...definitely content wise...Sirius is kicking XM's ass. Which, I think over time will win.

XM initially had the slightly lower monthly...plus the sexy name...which logically extended the whole radio thing...AM, FM, XM....I think initially, people were ..SIRIUS? what's that mean. But now with Howard...everyone knows what it means and how to say it.

Silence...for a no-hitter. That's funny stuff. That's why they have lame announcers to tell lame stories.

Funny how that happens. I let a friend borrow my truck yesterday and I took his. I tried listening to the radio, but it's like 1/3 commercials, 1/3 physcho-babble BS, and 1/3 music, and not even good music. XM is awesome.
